Microbial ecologist investigating how microbiomes process complex sugars

About me
I am a marine biologist and microbial ecologist investigating microbiomes, the community of microorganisms colonizing a particular ecosystem, and the role they play in the local and global biogeochemical cycling of carbon.
I study the microorganisms from two environments – the world oceans and animal digestive systems – and although these habitats might seem quite distinct from each other, the microorganisms in both systems use the same pathways to process complex sugars.
If we knew what we were doing, it wouldn’t be called research
