Dr. Greta Reintjes
Microbial ecologist investigating how microbiomes process complex sugars

About me
I am a marine biologist and microbial ecologist investigating microbiomes, the community of microorganisms colonizing a particular ecosystem, and the role they play in the local and global biogeochemical cycling of carbon.
I run the Microbial-Carbohydrate Interactions Group at the University of Bremen, Germany. We study what mechanisms bacteria use to degrade complex sugars and what abiotic and biotic factors affect their rate of sugar hydrolysis. We want to understand how these tiny organisms effect global cycles.
